How the spelling bee solver works
Bee-style puzzles give you seven letters arranged in a honeycomb. Every word must be at least four letters long, must use the centre letter, and can use any of the letters as many times as you like.
Type the centre letter in the middle box and the other six letters in the outer box. The solver lists every word that follows the rules, grouped by length, with pangrams at the top.
A pangram uses all seven letters at least once and is usually worth the most points in the puzzle. Pangrams are highlighted so you can spot them straight away.
Common words or every word
Daily puzzles generally use everyday words and leave out obscure ones. Common words only is switched on by default to match that, so the list is closer to the official answers.
Switch it off to see every word in our list, including rarer ones. That is useful for checking whether a word you thought of is real, but expect some that the daily puzzle will not accept.
Using it without spoiling the fun
If you only want a nudge, look at how many words there are of each length and try to find them yourself before opening the list.
Another approach is to search for the pangram only. Once you have it, the shorter words often come more easily, because many of them share its letters.
Questions and answers
What is a pangram?
A word that uses all seven letters of the puzzle at least once. Pangrams are highlighted at the top of the results.
Why does the solver find words the puzzle does not accept?
Each daily puzzle has its own hand-picked answer list. Our solver uses a general word list, so it can include words the puzzle has left out. Keep Common words only switched on for the closest match.
Can letters be used more than once?
Yes. In bee puzzles any letter can repeat, so the solver allows that too.
Is this the official spelling bee?
No. This is an independent tool and is not affiliated with The New York Times or any other puzzle publisher.
