E.
Remembering E
- It sounds like dit. Say it out loud as you listen, and learn the rhythm rather than counting dots and dashes.
- E has one signal: 1 dot. It takes 1 units of time to send, where a dot is one unit.
- E is roughly the most common letter in English. Morse code gives the shortest codes to the commonest letters, which is why E is quick to send.
- Swap every dot for a dash and every dash for a dot and you get T (-). Learning opposite pairs together helps them stick.
- Add more signals to the end of E and you get A, F, H, I, J, L, P, R, S, U, V and W, so it helps to learn these letters after E.
