G--.
Remembering G
- It sounds like dah-dah-dit. Say it out loud as you listen, and learn the rhythm rather than counting dots and dashes.
- G has 3 signals: 1 dot and 2 dashes. It takes 9 units of time to send, where a dot is one unit.
- G is roughly the 17th most common letter in English. Morse code gives the shortest codes to the commonest letters, which is why rarer letters like G are longer.
- Swap every dot for a dash and every dash for a dot and you get U (..-). Learning opposite pairs together helps them stick.
- Read it backwards and you get W (.--).
- Add more signals to the end of G and you get Q and Z, so it helps to learn these letters after G.
