U..-
Remembering U
- It sounds like di-di-dah. Say it out loud as you listen, and learn the rhythm rather than counting dots and dashes.
- U has 3 signals: 2 dots and 1 dash. It takes 7 units of time to send, where a dot is one unit.
- U is roughly the 13th most common letter in English. Morse code gives the shortest codes to the commonest letters, which is why rarer letters like U are longer.
- Swap every dot for a dash and every dash for a dot and you get G (--.). Learning opposite pairs together helps them stick.
- Read it backwards and you get D (-..).
- Add more signals to the end of U and you get F, so it helps to learn these letters after U.
