L.-..
Remembering L
- It sounds like di-dah-di-dit. Say it out loud as you listen, and learn the rhythm rather than counting dots and dashes.
- L has 4 signals: 3 dots and 1 dash. It takes 9 units of time to send, where a dot is one unit.
- L is roughly the 11th most common letter in English. Morse code gives the shortest codes to the commonest letters, which is why rarer letters like L are longer.
- Swap every dot for a dash and every dash for a dot and you get Y (-.--). Learning opposite pairs together helps them stick.
- Read it backwards and you get F (..-.).
