Y-.--
Remembering Y
- It sounds like dah-di-dah-dah. Say it out loud as you listen, and learn the rhythm rather than counting dots and dashes.
- Y has 4 signals: 1 dot and 3 dashes. It takes 13 units of time to send, where a dot is one unit.
- Y is roughly the 18th most common letter in English. Morse code gives the shortest codes to the commonest letters, which is why rarer letters like Y are longer.
- Swap every dot for a dash and every dash for a dot and you get L (.-..). Learning opposite pairs together helps them stick.
- Read it backwards and you get Q (--.-).
