R.-.
Remembering R
- It sounds like di-dah-dit. Say it out loud as you listen, and learn the rhythm rather than counting dots and dashes.
- R has 3 signals: 2 dots and 1 dash. It takes 7 units of time to send, where a dot is one unit.
- R is roughly the 9th most common letter in English. Morse code gives the shortest codes to the commonest letters, which is why rarer letters like R are longer.
- Swap every dot for a dash and every dash for a dot and you get K (-.-). Learning opposite pairs together helps them stick.
- Add more signals to the end of R and you get L, so it helps to learn these letters after R.
